Utsa is an endeavour to go back to our roots and re-establish a connect with nature. It is an aspiration to provide you with home products that are naturally derived. We are based in Mumbai, India and our first product is a ‘veggie storage bag’ – an alternative to plastic bags used in refrigerator.
Our core philosophy is inspired by the vedic way of life that embodied harmony with nature. The vedic seers worshipped nature in all its forms and expressed their reverence through hymns. They glorified natural forces and attributed divinity to them. The ‘Gayatri Mantra’, a principal mantra from the Rig Veda is addressed to the sun (light) and so is the Surya Namaskar - a bow to our cosmic source energy.
Traditionally, all of our day to day requirements were derived from nature, right from using a neem twig as a toothbrush to coconut fibres as utensil scrubber. This concept made best use of available resources in nature and was safe for the environment and for us.
The last few decades, however, have seen a spurt of consumer products that are synthetic in nature and have entered almost all aspects of our homes. While the adverse impact of their usage on us and on the environment is well known, it also increases the urban consumer’s already existent disconnect with nature.
It’s time to go back to the good old ways of using natural. The Utsa aspiration is all about that – a revival of our connect with mother Earth.
Here’s to nature. Here’s to harmony.
